This is the area that is known as the Walled Garden, built in the
19th Century during the period when the site was occupied by the
hospital. The south facing wall was used for training fruit on,
particularly peaches and nectarines although plums and pears were
grown as well. Today this area is used for the growing of tender
wall shrubs and climbers. Beneath these are planted tender and half-hardy
perennials.
