CONTEMPORARY ART AND CRAFT AT VENTNOR BOTANIC GARDENS
Two British artists, Jane Cox and Sue Lowday, who live here on the Island and whose work features in national museum collections, will be exhibiting at Ventnor Botanic Garden Echium Room from Saturday 27th to Monday 29th of May. This is a special opportunity to buy special handmade arty gifts at affordable prices and chat with the artists about their work.
Jane Cox’s signature ceramics combine elegant shapes with wild emerald blues, turquoise and speckle glazes inspired by the Island’s shoreline. This event will include items from her latest jade green range and popular black and white monochrome designs commissioned by The British Library.
Sue Lowday’s practice explores the unique properties of moulding and shaping leather. She will be showing eco vegetable-tanned leather items such as colourful unisex belts, bags, key-rings, wallets and purses, alongside a range of sculptural bags. Her ethereal metal sculptures inspired by rock formations will also be available. Sue’s recent commissions include a bespoke embossed leather case for the Bishop of Stepney and her work is featured in the Sheffield Museums, among other collections.
Gifts are accessibly priced, with mid-range items to more collectable pieces. Don’t miss this chance to buy something for the art lover in your life or even treat yourself. The event at Ventnor Botanic Echium Room will run from 10.00am to 4.00pm each day across Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th May. Exhibition entry and parking is free.
