I’m back! And something exciting is happening at Ventnor Botanic Garden.

Activities and visits have begun with the local school, St Francis, following the welcome news that we have obtained a grant from the AONB Partnership. Tuesday and Thursday I did a mini beast hunt in the school grounds with children from year 1 and Reception classes and there are lots of lovely activities planned with other year groups. In association with the National Trust,  Year 2 are going bird watching at St Catherine’s point. This is only the start-the main garden activities, funded by the Friends as part of the grant bid will kick off in the spring and it is planned that the Botanic Garden, in association with St Frances will have a real carnival presence for the first time – think lots of exotic flower costumes…

The Forest School programme has already begun with a local nursery and I have a few school visits in the diary,

For the adults I have planned a series of Workshops, Lectures the return of the populat Gardening Club.

It is planned to gain registration of the site for the teaching and delivery of an RHS level 2 practical certificate and to commence the unique Ventnor Botanic Garden Certificate in Plantsmanship next year.

If you have ideas for talks or workshops you would like to see, please contact me and we’ll see what we can do.

I’m really looking forward to renewing my acquaintance with some of you and welcoming new people to our education programme.
